Yiddish films are set mainly either in the Eastern European shtetl or in the Lower East Side or both. They focus on the life of the Eastern European Jewry in the first half of the 20th century and the major issue of that time: immigration to America, the goldene medine, and the problems, dreams, hopes, fears connected to it.
